Went to Allentown for a small show. Got to chill with my brother, Lauren Perry, & Seus!
Did some Planet of the Apes pieces. Met Matt Murray, official Smurfologist; busted him out a little piece.

Some kid bought a comic from my brother, and got a sketch of him as a zombie. He came back a couple minutes later with his face painted like that. It was pretty F'n cool.

I had a dream last night that I was cursed and I had to go on a quest to rid me of the devil's grip. I fell in love with a girl in a white bikini, that a I met at a casino. I only saw her twice & slept with her. She disappears, winds up being killed by the devil and stuffed with the devil's evil. Then she went ape shit in a deli. The evil was a computer virus that I had to have one of my friends crack the code to keep anyone else from being infected after I smashed her in the throat with the end of a hockey stick. It was like a Boston creme donut shot out of her mouth. Then slowly, other guys who were stuck at a table, their necks began to swell up and they looked dead. The girl I met some how knew that this was going to happen so she wrote down a code that I had to decipher. I think she was psychic. But originally I was at the counter of the deli to buy a lottery ticket with those numbers, thinking that was why she originally wrote them for me. I made up this crazy song and this video in my dreamtalking about my life as a cursed man. I think I can finally work on that script that I started a couple years ago.

The cyclops that escaped from hell.

This can go back to 2 different characters I made up, the skull kid that beats up on ghouls, and the cyclops that gets dragged down to hell and escapes. The devil follows him and tries to get back his 3 singing beans. I love horror & horror comics and I think it’s time I start working on this.

Ghetto Manga Cover - Luke Cage Tribute

My good man, Samax, let me grace his Ghetto Manga Quarterly for the 2nd time. This time it's the Mini Battle Men, reenacting a scene on the cover of Luke Cage, Hero for Hire #1. Each of the trio is rocking a different Cage costume.

Not only are the Mini Battle Men on the cover, but there is also a 1st time printing of MBM #1-9 (week 7 was a "technical difficulties" comic, so it is not included).

I'm also working on a actual cover for Mini Battle Men. I will include both of these on the wevolt site in a couple of weeks. Yanno, it'll help me get some hits for the weekly rumble contest.

I got turned onto this awesome FREE computer modeling program called Sculptris, its made by the same company that did Z Brush. Its way more intuitive than both Mudbox & zbrush, which makes it really fun. This is what I can up with so far. It works really well with a pen tablet.

The Americans UK are a real-life, New York-based band fronted by Jef UK. After producing a fun mini-series the team is releasing this, their first anthology. Five stories are presented by the Am/UK and friends, loaded with more attitude than your best local dive bar band just getting started on tomorrow's hangovers. Generally comedic with elements of sci-fi and fantasy and left field bizarre, Rocktronic Mixtape is a hard one to pin down. Even if I might well be one of the only reviewers in the world who has covered every issue thus far.
The first story, John Loves Wayne, is a Western, though not necessarily in the Brokeback sense. This is far, far worse. It has six-shooters. And, it is a direct adaptation of lyrics from one of the band's newer songs (which you can size up here).
Story two is a slice of life tale if by slice of life you mean finding a headful of gold in your freezer. Cause yea, that doesn't happen. At least not outside of Texas.
Story three has little to do with the band, with rock and roll, or with bodiless heads. It is however, a fantastically-drawn short that twists a stereotype around until ears bleed.
Story four may be my favorite of the book, even if it is rendered in a style comparable to that of most ten-year olds. Actually, this tale is a somewhat continuation of events that transpired in the series, with a fun Anime-like fight sequence and a shocking guest appearance from one of the world's greatest bands of all time. No, not Winger.
And the final story is also very easy on the eyes, and smartly spoofs a toy that most self-respecting adults own. And the kid getting drunk and macking on his friend's mom? Icing on the cake.
Americans UK are an imaginative, colorful lot. They are comic book-knowledgeable and do not shy away from lyrics involving time travel and/or monkey men. What Jef has done and is doing with these comix is a world of fun, a gas and a half. Honestly, these are the sort of comics that Fredric Wertham got a hard-on over, undoubtedly. This is degenerate material, even if it lacks nudity or verbal vulgarity. Yet this does attempt to capture in sequential art form the spirit of the music...or the music of the spirit. It may not be for everyone, sure, but then what is?
No, not Winger. Damnit.

So I just figured this out yesterday, say you have something you colored in with markers, or in my case, I painted something with watercolor. I don't have an example, so I can just walk through the process. Its using levels, but I didn't have to keep sliding the shadow, midtone, & highlights arrow back & forth until I found something that was sort of what I wanted. It usually would blow out my hot colors like red & yellow and make my dark pencil lines over bearing. This hit it every time.

1. So you just scanned your image, the colors look like shit, because scanners aren't a magical piece of machinery like in the movies and don't scan exactly what is in front of you.

2. Either go to Image > Adjustements > Levels or hotkey: Apple + L (Mac), or Ctrl +L (PC)

This should be what comes up, make sure preview is selected.

3. Open "Options..."

This is what you should see next.

4. Under Algorithms, click the 3rd option, "Find Dark & Light Colors", then hit ok.

If you have preview selected, it should show you right away. I used it for all of my scans yesterday with my paintings and it was perfect everytime. I have no idea what the other options on this window do, but I'm assuming if you have a one color image the 1st option would work well...play around. I'm going to need this when I scan Mini Battle Men #2 this week.

This is what I've been working on the past couple weeks...its a preschool age show. I'm creating the look of their world.

That's the sketch I work from. I'm 'painting' them in photoshop....my 1st full scale photoshop coloring project. I'm learning alot, but its not something I want to completely transition to. I love working on paper and with my hands, and I always will. But I'm using alot of Mary Blair and Hanna Barbara backgrounds to influence my coloring. I mix some splatter brushes with charcoal and water color brushes to get that texture with the brush.

So yesterday I started a new internship at a great music magazine, Wax Poetics! Its a super in-depth mag', and sometimes too text heavy for me...I can't help it I read too many comics. So far they trusted me with laying out the weekly newsletter and today I scanned around 85 records from the Fania record catalog. Most were 1st pressings and some were even unopened! HO MY GOD! I thought to myself, I was the 1st person to ever touch these covers since they were pressed back in the 70s. Thats 30 f'n years ago!!! Today, they got in a shipment from the Fania warehouse in Miami and there were two cases packed in with it. My boss took one and I took the other. There was basically nothing inside but a receipt from 1974 for the processing of a film from the Latino music festival from Screen Gems/Columbia Pictures.

The history was swarming around me.

I got to meet DJ Amir. Plus 2 minute walk to a nice and sunny park between the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridge is monumental. The office definitely looks like it needs a mural on their walls - too much white space. I think I got something *hint, hint*

My new paid job is sign painting at Trader Joe's. Trader Joe's a decent place to shop...good food, but 80% expensive and high on the yuppie tip. I rocked the hell out of TJ's in Portland because I could take advantage of food stamps. So TJ's is an alright joint, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE to paint signs and the whole idea of playing with text all day is great...the amazing thing too it I don't use a computer to lay out the signs; all done by hand from beginning to end. Once I transfer over my photos, I'll post them. If I could get a good job painting signs for higher pay and closer in proximity I would drop TJ's in a heartbeat. I would love nothing more than to paint signs and do comics all day - heaven!
